Job Summary

The Senior Maintenance Engineer will perform advanced MEP diagnostics, manage preventative maintenance software systems, resolve guest room issues autonomously, maintain inventory controls, audit shut-off systems, and mentor junior engineers while complying with national safety codes.

Qualification

• Mandatory Licensing & Certifications:
  • A valid, active Driver's License.
  • Universal EPA Section 608 Certification in chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) for high-pressure refrigerant handling.
  • Full compliance with all applicable state and federal technical licensing and certification mandates.
• Formal Education (Desirable): A High School Diploma, General Education Development (GED) equivalency certificate, or an Associate/Vocational degree in building maintenance, electrical engineering, or refrigeration systems.
• Technical Blueprint Literacy: Advanced proficiency reading, analyzing, and applying basic architectural blueprints and complex electrical schematics related to commercial plumbing and HVAC systems.
• Engineering Aptitude Architecture: Candidates must demonstrate an above-average aptitude in engineering operations and an advanced aptitude for general mechanics, structured across the following criteria:
  • Above-Average Aptitude: Required in at least two (2) of the core disciplines listed below.
  • Good Aptitude: Required in at least three (3) of the core disciplines listed below.
  • Basic Aptitude: Required across the remaining categories.
  • Disciplines: Air Conditioning & Refrigeration, Electrical, Mechanical, Plumbing, Pneumatic/Electronic Systems & Controls, Carpentry & Finishing, Kitchen Equipment, Fleet Vehicles, Energy Conservation, and General Building Management.

Candidates must bring a deep background in commercial facilities maintenance and premium guest service environments:

Professional Longevity & Trade Experience

• Hospitality Maintenance Background: A minimum of two (2) years of dedicated engineering and facilities maintenance experience specifically within a hotel or premium resort environment.
• Advanced MEP Execution: Extensive, documented experience executing highly complex repairs on physical property, electrical panels, commercial plumbing infrastructure, air conditioning systems, and industrial pool heaters.
• Autonomous Diagnosis: Proven track record diagnosing equipment malfunctions (such as rebuilding or replacing pumps and motors) and executing basic cosmetic, appliance, and digital connectivity fixes with little or no supervision.
• Supply & Inventory Management: Direct experience maintaining technical part inventories, auditing stock levels, and ordering engineering supplies as needed.

Physical & Operational Adaptability

• Physical Stamina: Proven capability to routinely lift, carry, push, and place objects weighing up to 50 pounds (4.5 kg) independently, and manage heavier loads with team support.
• Spatial Mobility: Comfort navigating stairs, service ramps, and high ladders; ability to safely perform work requiring stooping, crawling, twisting, bending, or working in confined technical areas.
• Digital Literacy: Advanced proficiency navigating engineering enterprise software programs dedicated to preventative maintenance (PM), energy management, and smart utility-device interfaces.

Key Responsibilities

Autonomous Technical Repairs & Preventative Maintenance

• Execute Highly Complex Repairs: Remediate advanced malfunctions in structural property, electrical components, plumbing, refrigeration lines, and HVAC layouts, ensuring all work complies with local and national building codes.
• Diagnose System Failures: Isolate and troubleshoot MEP infrastructure issues; replace faulty water pumps, circulating motors, light fixtures, electrical outlets, wall switches, and unclog high-volume drainage lines.
• Maintain Equipment Longevity: Perform structured preventative maintenance routines on plant tools and heavy machinery, executing comprehensive cleaning, inspection, and lubrication schedules.
• Act as Duty Engineer: Run scheduled property shifts, document gauge readouts, conduct facility rounds, and maintain a clear understanding of the location and operation of all emergency shut-off valves.

Guest Relations & Cross-Shift Communication

• Address Guest Requests: Respond to and resolve guest-room maintenance requests with a high degree of courtesy and urgency, minimizing operational disruption.
• Uphold Luxury Service Standards: Greet all guests warmly, anticipate service needs, provide dedicated assistance to guests with disabilities, and embody the JW Marriott hospitality ethos.
• Coordinate Inter-Shift Logistics: Ensure daily activities, outstanding engineering logs, and critical facility issues are logged and communicated clearly to oncoming shifts using established communication programs.
• Train & Mentor Teams: Act as a technical mentor to junior engineers, providing guidance on tool safety, diagnostics, and code compliance.
