Job Summary
The WASH Consultant provides remote technical guidance to on-ground staff establishing water and sanitation infrastructure in Gaza. This consultant troubleshoots engineering issues, advises on local WASH procurement, participates in weekly status syncs, and ensures project compliance with public health and environmental engineering standards.
Key Roles & Operational Responsibilities
1. Remote Technical Guidance & Infrastructure Support
- Engineering Oversight: Provide online technical advice to local field teams implementing water treatment, sanitation systems, and hygiene infrastructure in Gaza.
- Technical Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve technical, chemical, and structural issues encountered during system setup and operational maintenance.
- Procurement Consultation: Advise local staff on sourcing, evaluating, and procuring appropriate WASH equipment, water treatment chemicals, and hardware within the local market context.
2. Team Coordination & Communication
- Weekly Syncs: Lead weekly status and technical alignment meetings with local partner staff and field technicians.
- Continuous Advisory: Maintain ongoing communication channels to offer real-time problem-solving and quality control for project milestones.
- Stakeholder Sensitivity: Ensure all advisory interventions are politically and culturally appropriate for the sensitive operational environment in Gaza.
Foundational Capabilities & Prerequisites
Required Qualifications & Profile
- Professional Background (MANDATORY): A degree or technical credential in a water- or sanitation-related discipline:
- Water / Environmental / Chemical / Civil Engineering
- Bio-Chemistry or Environmental Sciences
- Public Health or Practical Water Treatment Engineering
- Language Skills (MANDATORY): Native or professional fluency in both Arabic and English (spoken and written).
- Communication: Exceptional interpersonal and remote instruction skills.
- Cultural Competency: Highly sensitive to political and cultural nuances with patience and emotional intelligence.
Desirable Attributes & Preferred Experience
- Prior professional experience working within humanitarian aid and emergency response frameworks.
- Direct technical experience working within the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) regional context.
