Job Summary
The Senior Manager – Field Operations and Programs provides senior leadership, strategic oversight, and system-building expertise for field execution models. Reporting directly to the Program Director, the Senior Manager serves as the primary bridge between organizational strategy and ground-level execution. This position owns the continuous improvement of field standards, data quality assurance, and talent development architectures across multiple programs. While Program Managers retain accountability for day-to-day delivery, this role synthesizes operational data to institutionalize robust, scalable, and automated field delivery systems.
Qualification
- Required: Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, International Development, Data Analytics, Economics, or a related problem-solving field.
- Exceptional analytical capacity to process complex operational data and run robust analyses that drive structural programmatic decisions.

Experience
- Required: At least 5 years of progressive professional experience in a heavy problem-solving, analytical, or operational management role (e.g., field operations management, management consulting, or programmatic analytics).
- Proven track record managing, mentoring, and coaching senior-level field staff or program managers within a fast-paced environment.
- Substantive experience leading field data collection, survey design updates, or mobile-tech integration within rural or resource-constrained communities.
- Demonstrated experience scaling operational systems, managing multi-variable project risks, or driving process-automation initiatives.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
Field Operations Leadership & Standards:
- Provide senior oversight across field execution teams to guarantee consistent implementation quality, data integrity, and strict adherence to global operational standards.
- Hold Program Managers and Field Managers accountable to rigorous delivery metrics, including household enrollment timelines, efficiency benchmarks, and recipient experiences.
- Conduct regular field visits to evaluate backend check efficiency, audit staff compliance, and mitigate cross-program operational risks before escalating to the Program Director.
- Review, stress-test, and endorse operational pilots or innovative targeting approaches prior to organizational scaling.
Systems Building & Operational Excellence:
- Own the iterative evolution of the field delivery model, maximizing scalability, financial reliability, and operational cost-efficiency.
- Lead cross-functional initiatives to strengthen automated data quality assurance protocols and backend technology integration across enrollment and monitoring cycles.
- Design and implement comprehensive risk mitigation frameworks alongside Product, Field, and Finance managers, specifically targeting complex research partnerships or delivery slowdowns.
People Management & Talent Pipelines:
- Cultivate a candid, high-performance, and non-hierarchical team culture centered around immediate feedback, strict accountability, and real professional growth.
- Directly manage, review, and upscale senior field staff (Program Managers and Field Managers), establishing clear frameworks for effective team management down the line.
- Orchestrate strategic workforce planning, resource allocation, and hiring blueprints to eliminate structural gaps or inefficiencies in regional organizational charts.
- Identify high-potential personnel to build accelerated internal development pathways and promotional pipelines.
Data Analytics & Cross-Functional Interface:
- Interrogate operational data to monitor field trends, isolate logistical bottlenecks, and provide decision support to executive leadership.
- Act as the primary operational liaison with GiveDirectly’s global data and tech teams to synchronize field requirements with product development.
- Synthesize intricate data streams into highly digestible insights, actionable briefs, and status decks for the Program Director and external donors.
Skills & Competencies
Technical:
- Advanced mastery of operational data metrics, field survey architectures, and analytical problem-solving.
- Proficiency with digital data collection platforms, field automation software, and mobile money tracking systems.
- Strong risk-modeling and mitigation capabilities concerning financial compliance and logistics.
- Competency in structural design for multi-tiered regional team charts.
