Job Summary
The Senior Infrastructure & Platform Engineer manages and executes the deployment, configuration, and technical validation of enterprise applications across multi-vendor infrastructure stacks. Core daily tasks include authoring Low-Level Design (LLD) topologies, translating project blueprints into explicit network, server, and database provisioning requests, resolving complex cross-layer connectivity and host issues, auditing compliance against security frameworks, and routing system changes through automated ServiceNow ticketing workflows.
Required Professional Experience & Architectural Background
- Enterprise Experience: Proven track record operating successfully as an Infrastructure Engineer, Systems Engineer, Technical Infrastructure Engineer, or a closely matching corporate infrastructure delivery role.
- Environment Depth: Deep, demonstrable understanding of enterprise IT infrastructure architectures, featuring significant hands-on experience navigating complex, multi-site on-premises data center environments.
- Hosting Frameworks: Comprehensive grasp of modern application architectures, including how multi-tier enterprise applications are hosted, connected across firewalls, load-balanced, and operationally maintained.
- Design Blueprinting: Solid experience creating, interpreting, and engineering directly from complex Low-Level Design (LLD) infrastructure topologies and technical integration documents.
Required Systems Coordination & Execution Skills
- Vetting & Gathering: Proven ability to analyze poorly defined project descriptions, interview application owners, extract exact technical requirements, and consolidate inputs into concrete implementation steps.
- Request Life Cycle Management: Extensive experience initializing, detailing, and tracking complex infrastructure, network routing, server configuration, database provisioning, and identity access requests through to formal closure.
- Cross-Team Collaboration: Natural comfort collaborating horizontally with isolated infrastructure domains, including Linux/Windows host management, network operations, database administration, and corporate cybersecurity groups.
- Multi-Tasking Execution: Outstanding organizational skills, characterized by the ability to manage multiple concurrent deployment requests and infrastructure projects smoothly without losing detail or velocity.
Broad Multi-Domain Technical Knowledge (Expertise in all is not required)
The successful candidate must possess broad technical credibility and conversational fluency across a combination of the following enterprise technologies:
- Compute & Virtualization: VMware vSphere environments, Windows Server administration, and enterprise Linux distributions (RHEL/CentOS).
- Networking & Firewalls: Enterprise Software-Defined Networking platforms (e.g., Cisco ACI), next-generation firewalls (Fortigate), and Secure Access Service Edge architectures (CATO Networks).
- Application Delivery & Load Balancing: Traffic management systems like NetScaler and enterprise virtual desktop infrastructure (Citrix Virtualisation).
- Storage Architectures: Network-Attached Storage (NAS) and Storage Area Network (SAN) operations, specifically utilizing NetApp storage systems.
- Identity & Access Management: Traditional Active Directory design alongside modern cloud identity platforms like Entra ID.
- Containerization & Cloud Fabrics: Modern microservice platforms (OpenShift), cloud native services (Azure App Services), and API orchestration layers (Azure API Management).
- Automation, Monitoring & ITSM: Infrastructure-as-Code engines (Ansible), open-source monitoring suites (Grafana), and institutional workflow managers (ServiceNow).
Key Responsibilities
1. Low-Level Technical Topology Design & Requirement Synthesis (35%)
- Translate Application Blueprints: Review incoming application architecture designs and translate high-level business goals into explicit, actionable infrastructure configurations.
- Architect Low-Level Topologies: Draft comprehensive, highly detailed low-level technical topologies (LLD), explicitly mapping server host placements, VLAN allocations, load-balancing VIPs, and storage tier assignments.
- Extract Deployment Variables: Interview software engineering groups and project leads to pull hidden resource dependencies, capacity projections, and connectivity profiles from scattered sources.
- Standardize System Documentation: Build and preserve a centralized, audit-ready inventory of deployment requirements, storage allocations, firewall rule exceptions, and architectural decisions.
2. Full-Stack Infrastructure Provisioning & Request Governance (30%)
- Initialize Enterprise Requests: Translate approved LLD designs into formal infrastructure change sets, opening precise compute, network routing, database instance, and access control modifications via ServiceNow.
- Drive Request Pipelines: Monitor and advance active infrastructure requests through internal approval tracks, following up directly with core network, storage, or security teams to prevent operational bottlenecks.
- Manage Change Configurations: Ensure all infrastructure modifications are logged, reviewed, and deployed in strict accordance with corporate version control guidelines and standard change windows.
- Audit Compliance Frameworks: Verify that every server build, database instance deployment, and firewall rule change aligns perfectly with internal security profiles and corporate data privacy standards.
3. Multi-Domain Technical Troubleshooting & Coordination (25%)
- Triage Deployment Roadblocks: Serve as the primary point of contact for technical triage when application deployments encounter configuration errors, storage dropouts, or database performance limits.
- Isolate Connectivity Failures: Use advanced network diagnostic logic to trace application packets across internal firewalls (Fortigate), software-defined fabrics (Cisco ACI), and load balancers (NetScaler).
- Orchestrate Crisis Resolution: Confidently bring together specialized technical experts, platform engineers, and external vendor support teams to resolve critical, hard-to-pinpoint systemic bugs.
- Mitigate Deployment Risk: Proactively identify, track, and document cross-platform resource contentions, structural single points of failure, and security risks during major migration phases.
4. Strategic Hosting Consulting & Operational Readiness (10%)
- Guide Strategic Hosting Discussions: Act as an expert guide in cross-departmental reviews focusing on compute hosting options, data residency constraints, security measures, and high-availability setups.
- Guarantee Operational Hand-off: Coordinate the formal transition of newly deployed applications into standard operations, ensuring logging agents, Grafana dashboards, and backup policies are fully live.
- Mentor Engineering Teams: Provide continuous technical guidance and system training to junior engineers and application teams, driving overall operational consistency across the Chennai engineering center.
