Job Summary
The Sales Lead manages Mukuru’s transactional growth, community acquisition channels, and localized agent distribution frameworks across Rwanda. Core responsibilities include organizing high-impact field marketing events, recruiting and onboarding third-party transactional agents, training banking and telecom partners, running retention campaigns, and synthesizing local competitor market intelligence for executive leadership.
Qualification
Educational Level & Domain Alignment
- Minimum Requirement: A formal Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in Business Administration, Sales Management, Marketing, Strategic Communications, or a closely matching corporate discipline.
Linguistic Standards
- Bi-lingual Fluency: Complete professional verbal and written fluency in both English and Kinyarwanda is mandatory to engage local communities, institutional regulators, and commercial partners.
- Asset Languages: Conversational or professional proficiency in French represents a distinct advantage.
Experience
Candidates must demonstrate direct success managing high-volume B2C customer acquisition, active field ecosystems, and digital sales tools:
Commercial Footprint & Customer Acquisition
- Sales Track Record: Minimum of 2+ years of direct professional experience in field sales, business development, grassroots marketing, or high-volume customer acquisition settings.
- Target Management: Proven, reference-backed ability to consistently achieve and exceed aggressive volume-driven sales targets.
- Field Agility: Demonstrated capability to organize a demanding, mobile, field-based daily schedule without requiring constant direct office supervision.
Preferred Industry Knowledge (FinTech & Remittances)
- Financial Services Exposure: Prior experience within a FinTech startup, mobile money provider (MoMo), commercial bank, retail remittance firm, or micro-finance ecosystem is highly preferred.
- Market Landscape Savvy: Deep understanding of Rwanda's national remittance architecture, money transfer regulations, and mobile money user patterns.
- Community Equity: Existing professional relationships within business networks, merchant associations, and diaspora communities inside Rwanda.
Technical & Digital Infrastructure Aptitude
- Digital Communication Tools: Complete comfort deploying consumer-facing digital applications, mobile apps, WhatsApp Business strategies, and mainstream social media channels for lead capturing.
- Sales Technology Fluency: Hands-on experience working with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) platforms and mobile-based pipeline trackers is highly valued.
- Agent Management Capability: Prior experience identifying, recruiting, onboarding, and auditing compliance standards for retail merchant agents or brand ambassadors.
Key Responsibilities
1. Grassroots Customer Acquisition & Volume Generation (30%)
- Drive Strategic Outreach: Build and execute high-volume customer acquisition campaigns using community events, door-to-door field marketing, and digital lead channels.
- Host Community Activations: Represent the Mukuru brand at strategic gathering spots including universities, commercial business forums, churches, and social gatherings to introduce new users to the platform.
- Convert Brand Awareness: Guide new users through their initial account creation and first transactions, successfully converting brand awareness into active user loyalty.
2. Agent Network Sourcing, Onboarding & Compliance (25%)
- Recruit Regional Agents: Identify, background-check, and recruit high-performing merchant agents across Kigali and target secondary cities to expand cash-out networks.
- Onboard & Enable Agents: Lead the training, setup, and branding of new agent locations, ensuring they have the tools to operate successfully.
- Enforce Compliance Standards: Monitor active agent points to ensure all operations consistently meet strict regulatory compliance and service quality criteria.
3. Institutional Partner Management & Co-Activation (20%)
- Support Banking Partners: Partner with local commercial banks and mobile network operators (MNOs) to run joint customer acquisition events.
- Train Partner Staff: Conduct ongoing training and product education sessions for partner branch tellers and customer service teams to streamline transaction processing.
- Optimize Brand Visibility: Manage point-of-sale (POS) branding and marketing asset distribution across all partner locations to capture maximum visual attention.
4. User Retention, Support & Market Intelligence (25%)
- Run Retention Campaigns: Design and launch customer re-engagement campaigns, proactively following up with inactive users to restore transaction volumes.
- Gather Field Feedback: Act as the primary channel for customer feedback, tracking platform bugs, user challenges, and localized product needs.
- Deliver Market Intelligence: Monitor competitor pricing, changing customer behaviors, and emerging sector opportunities to provide actionable insights for Mukuru's long-term regional strategy.
Expected Outputs & Deliverables
- Consistent month-on-month growth in active, transacting users across the Rwanda corridor.
- An expanded, fully certified retail agent footprint across Kigali and secondary growth hubs.
- High-visibility branding materials and trained operational staff across all banking partner branches.
- Documented weekly pipeline logs, agent performance audits, and local competitor pricing trackers.
- Successful event execution reports covering university, church, and community marketing activations.
