Job Summary
The Rust Developer builds high-performance web endpoints while auditing AI-powered developer workflows and code models. Core daily tasks include architecting type-safe Rust backend services, designing REST and GraphQL APIs, managing secure database migrations, conducting 4-day intensive testing bursts inside the Cursor IDE environment, writing highly detailed technical bug traces, and collaborating directly with research teams on Slack to maximize code-generation accuracy.
Required Systems Engineering & Rust Foundations
- Software Engineering Tenure: Minimum of 5+ years of professional experience operating as a dedicated backend developer, backed by deep, production-level expertise in the Rust systems programming language.
- API Engineering Mastery: Proven track record configuring, optimizing, and maintaining highly scalable, type-safe REST and GraphQL API endpoints.
- Data Security & Validation: Advanced command of robust data validation methodologies, memory-safe error-handling patterns, and enterprise API security frameworks.
- Relational Architecture: Hands-on experience structuring database schemas, executing production migrations without downtime, and tuning query execution plans for optimal speed.
- AI-Assisted Development Habits: Deep familiarity and extensive day-to-day use of AI-powered development tools inside your regular coding workflows.
- Technical Scribing Mastery: Exceptional written and verbal English communication capabilities, with a clear knack for writing highly detailed, structured incident logs and code execution traces.
- Confidentiality Discipline: Proven capacity to thrive inside fast-paced, highly secure remote spaces while protecting intellectual property and unreleased source code.
Preferred Technical Assets & Open-Source Footprint
- Open-Source Contribution Record: Verifiable contributions to prominent open-source repositories (demonstrated by active GitHub profiles, merged pull requests, or highly regarded system crates).
- IDE Customization & Tool Testing: Previous experience evaluating experimental developer software, building editor extensions, or designing automated testing workflows.
- Cursor IDE Specialization: Prior daily working proficiency utilizing Cursor as your core development workspace is highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities
1. High-Performance Rust API Architecture & Data Governance (45%)
- Design Scalable Endpoints: Code, optimize, and document robust REST and GraphQL backend endpoints using modern Rust framework structures (such as Axum, Actix-web, or Juniper).
- Enforce Memory Safety: Leverage Rust's strict compiler guarantees, strong type systems, and ownership semantics to deploy thread-safe backend architectures free from race conditions.
- Run Database Migrations: Plan and run clean schema updates, write highly optimized SQL queries, and manage indexing strategies across transactional database backends.
- Protect System Integrity: Set up robust JSON/GraphQL validation middleware, structure secure authentication layers, and deploy safe error-handling routines that prevent internal state leaks.
2. Intensive AI Model Testing Loops & Cursor Diagnostics (35%)
- Run Testing Bursts: Participate in structured, 4-day intensive testing bursts, embedding experimental AI models directly into complex backend development processes to check their real-world code output.
- Audit Code Generation: Systematically evaluate AI code suggestions inside Cursor, checking for subtle memory leaks, logic bugs, syntax flaws, or architectural anti-patterns in Rust code.
- Log Diagnostics Data: Write clear technical incident reports, capturing stack traces, compiler errors, visual behavior screenshots, and reproduction logs to track where models fail.
3. Asynchronous Research Collaboration & Survey Delivery (20%)
- Sync with Research Teams: Engage actively inside a secure, dedicated Slack workspace with core AI research teams, discussing model behavior variations and proposing tool workflow upgrades.
- Deliver Post-Burst Metrics: Author and submit comprehensive post-burst technical surveys, providing deep qualitative and quantitative feedback on developer experience metrics, context-window accuracy, and model code quality.
- Maintain Task Timelines: Manage project deliverables independently, hitting strict telemetry submission dates across multiple concurrent tool evaluations.
Core Competencies & Skills
- Methodical Code Analysis: A sharp, analytical ability to trace errors down to their root cause, separating IDE configuration issues from actual model reasoning bugs.
- Rigid Technical Discipline: A clean, structured approach to writing systems code, ensuring all APIs remain modular, secure, and easy to maintain.
- Collaborative Logic Sharing: The talent to explain complex, low-level Rust behaviors clearly to research teams who may specialize in separate domains.
- Resourceful Project Ownership: A highly responsible, self-directed working style that manages intensive project bursts smoothly without dropping communication threads.
Skills Required:
- Computer / Software / It / Data
