Qualification
Candidates must meet the following baseline hardware, technical, and environment standards:
- Required Hardware Ecosystem: Reliable, daily access to three distinct testing environments:
- A dedicated Windows testing machine (running Windows 10/11).
- An Intel-based Mac computer.
- An Apple Silicon (M-series ARM) Mac device.
- Communication Standards: Advanced written English communication skills, specifically demonstrating the ability to write objective, actionable, and jargon-free technical documentation.
- Remote Workspace: A dependable, high-speed internet connection and a secure home office setup optimized for independent, distraction-free software testing during fixed PST hours.
Experience
Candidates must demonstrate the following technical competencies, platform familiarity, and testing track record:
Core Testing & Documentation
- Desktop QA Track Record: Minimum of three (3) years of professional, hands-on experience focused explicitly on the manual QA testing of desktop software applications.
- Test Plan Engineering: Proven capability to draft structured test plans and test cases from scratch using spreadsheets or CSV formats, derived directly from product specifications or feature walkthroughs.
- AI Documentation Refinement: Verified ability to evaluate, trim, and significantly improve AI-generated testing templates by deleting redundant scenarios, inserting missed edge cases, and clarifying expected outcomes.
- Bug Tracking Mastery: Expert-level history of writing detailed bug reports containing step-by-step reproduction instructions, clear environment variables, severity/priority classifications, and logs.
Deep OS & Environment Familiarity
- Windows Architecture: Technical familiarity with platform-specific components, including Windows Shell Extensions, the Windows Registry, and NSIS installers.
- macOS Architecture: Technical understanding of native Apple behaviors, including .app bundles, Info.plist configurations, native title-bar behaviors, and .dmg package validation.
- Target Software Domains: Prior experience testing business or productivity applications, with specific familiarity operating inside Microsoft 365 and Outlook ecosystems.
- Authentication & AI Frameworks: Direct experience validating Microsoft Entra or OAuth authentication workflows, alongside practical experience testing AI or LLM-based interactive chat applications.
- Tooling Ecosystem: Professional daily exposure to cross-platform desktop runtime frameworks, alongside hands-on usage of GitLab for defect tracking and Microsoft Teams for corporate communication.
Key Responsibilities
Functional Testing & Chipset Validation
- Execute Multi-Platform Tests: Perform deep manual functional, regression, exploratory, and compatibility testing on Windows 10/11 and macOS operating systems.
- Validate Chipset Architecture: Confirm uniform product behavior and performance continuity across both traditional Intel-based and native Apple Silicon (ARM) Mac devices.
- Test Desktop Mechanics: Validate complex, multi-layered desktop UI workflows, including multi-window interactions, drag-and-drop functionality, modal dialogs, and system tray/menu bar behaviors.
Test Architecture & Document Optimization
- Develop Test Plans: Build out comprehensive, reusable manual test case repositories from product specifications, technical documents, and hands-on exploratory testing.
- Optimize AI-Generated Content: Audit and restructure AI-generated testing documentation to remove redundant blocks, expand test coverage efficiency, and guarantee absolute clarity.
- Isolate Installer Anomalies: Verify the stability and safety of application installation, uninstallation, and silent update flows for NSIS packages on Windows and .app/.dmg packages on Mac.
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Reporting
- Log Technical Defects: Document software defects with precision, attaching clear steps to reproduce, crash logs, environment variables, screenshots, and priority tags.
- Partner with Engineering: Coordinate asynchronously and synchronously with remote software engineering and product management teams via GitLab and Microsoft Teams.
- Contribute to Quality Circles: Participate actively in internal product feedback discussions, bug triage sessions, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
