Job Summary
The Senior Construction Planning Engineer will formulate master time schedules, evaluate actual field progress against baseline milestones, and audit economic metrics to optimize resource consumption. Key functions include engineering advanced critical path structures within Primavera P6, authoring recovery schedules to counter unexpected site delays, aligning project metrics with technical and legal regulations, and managing customer communications to maintain seamless project execution.
Qualification
- Educational Level: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field of study.
- Software Competency: Expert-level, daily operational proficiency in Primavera P6 (Project Management) and MS Project, with a strong background in using project controls tools for data synthesis.
- Linguistic Skills: Mandatory baseline fluency in professional written and spoken English, required for defending schedule delays, drafting formal reports, and managing multi-national client interfaces.
- Core Professional Competencies: Advanced capability in project planning and macro management, highly developed problem analysis, structural resolution mechanics, and exceptional communication effectiveness.
Experience
Candidates must demonstrate direct technical competence within high-rise critical path scheduling, resource leveling, and international project execution:
Mega-Project Controls & Scheduling
- Professional Longevity: A minimum of 10+ years of continuous, verified experience operating strictly in dedicated Planning Engineer or Project Controls roles on large-scale, high-value construction projects.
- Vertical High-Rise Mastery: Direct, hands-on scheduling history navigating high-rise, vertical concrete/steel structures, and commercial mixed-use developments is an essential requirement.
- Economic & Time Balancing: Proven track record of monitoring and controlling project baselines simultaneously across time metrics (S-curves) and economic cash flow parameters.
Regional Adaptability & Client Interfacing
- Emerging Markets Footprint: Relevant project planning experience operating within Africa or across developing markets facing complex supply chain and environmental logistics is highly preferable.
- Regulatory & Legal Alignment: Direct experience aligning project master plans with rigid technical engineering guidelines, local labor codes, and statutory building legal parameters.
- Customer Orientation: A documented history of working effectively with external developers, structural engineers, and institutional clients to manage timeline expectations smoothly.
Key Responsibilities
Critical Path Engineering & Schedule Management
- Architect Master Schedules: Build, update, and govern comprehensive baseline schedules for large-scale developments using Primavera P6, ensuring all logic ties, constraints, and calendars are technically sound.
- Monitor Economic & Time Matrices: Run continuous earned value analysis (EVA) to cross-examine physical site progress against economic expenditures, alerting Works Management to any negative variances.
- Formulate Structural Work Plans: Collaborate directly with Project Directors and Construction Managers to engineer localized, high-velocity work plans and short-term look-ahead task sequences.
Risk Mitigation & Progress Analytics
- Isolate Schedule Bottlenecks: Conduct structural delay analyses and quantitative risk tracking to identify critical path vulnerabilities, designing practical acceleration or recovery schedules to protect deadlines.
- Audit Subcontractor Timelines: Review and validate master schedules submitted by specialized MEP or structural sub-tier vendors, integrating their data blocks cleanly into the master platform.
- Compile Management Analytics: Synthesize raw field metadata into scannable progress dashboards, resource histograms, and visual projection matrices for executive boards and client review.
Legal, Regulatory, and Client Governance
- Enforce Technical/Legal Compliance: Verify that all planning updates match defined technical specifications, localized health and safety rules, and contract legal frameworks.
- Represent Corporate Interests: Lead technical planning alignment sessions alongside client engineering teams, maintaining high customer satisfaction while protecting corporate contract boundaries.
- Foster Teamwork: Coordinate closely across internal Estimating, Procurement, Quality Control, and On-Site Execution cells to match material delivery dates with active field installation phases.
