Job Summary
The Freelance Nutanix & Networking Engineer will provide rapid-response onsite and remote Break & Fix support to diagnose and rectify server, virtual layer, and network architecture incidents. Core responsibilities include managing Nutanix HCI systems, performing urgent patching or hardware replacements, diagnosing complex routing/VLAN anomalies, and interfacing directly with international remote engineering teams to guarantee total system uptime.
Qualification
- Mandatory Cisco Credential: Must hold an active, verifiable CCNA Certification (Cisco Certified Network Associate). Applications without a valid certification ID will be automatically filtered out.
- Assessment Prerequisite: Success is conditional upon achieving a minimum 90% pass score on the firm's technical induction assessment module.
- Language Requirements: Full, business-level written and spoken fluency in English. Excellent command of terminology is required for clear incident logging.
- Preferred Certifications: Possession of a Nutanix Certified Professional (NCP) credential or higher, or verified certifications in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) will give candidates an immediate structural advantage.
Experience
Candidates must exhibit complete technical self-sufficiency without the need for basic training:
Enterprise Virtualization & Nutanix Core
- Field Tenure Alignment: A minimum of five (5) years of active, progressive professional experience operating inside enterprise IT support, data center virtualization, or network engineering roles.
- Nutanix Ecosystem Mastery: Deep, hands-on history deploying, configuring, troubleshooting, and patching the core Nutanix stack—specifically AOS, AHV, and Prism administration portals.
- Multi-Hypervisor Competency: Proven capability supporting or migrating environments built on legacy hypervisors, including VMware vSphere/ESXi and Microsoft Hyper-V.
Advanced Networking & Break & Fix Operations
- Infrastructure Triage: Verifiable background providing high-urgency Break & Fix infrastructure services under strict corporate Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
- Network Troubleshooting: Robust functional knowledge of foundational protocols, covering routing and switching mechanics, TCP/IP routing, VLAN mapping, DNS hierarchies, DHCP scopes, and subnetting.
- Disaster Recovery Execution: Direct experience deploying, monitoring, and restoring systems using data center backup protocols and disaster recovery mechanisms.
Key Responsibilities
Critical Break & Fix Intervention & Incident Triage
- Execute Onsite Resolution: Rapidly deploy to client locations in Kigali to diagnose, isolate, and repair critical server, storage, and networking hardware or software faults.
- Govern Nutanix Infrastructures: Monitor and manage hyperconverged infrastructure blocks, coordinating lifecycle upgrades, routine patching, and hardware node replacements.
- Rectify Network Failures: Troubleshoot complex connectivity drops, routing loops, interface errors, and configuration drift across corporate switches and routers.
Disaster Recovery, Automation & Cloud Project Delivery
- Deploy Recovery Redundancy: Validate and spin up backup image files or disaster recovery protocols to protect client operations following an outage or malware incident.
- Collaborate with Global Teams: Act as the local, eyes-and-hands extension for regional and global enterprise engineering groups during coordinated data center updates or cloud migrations.
- Optimize via Scripting (Advantageous): Leverage PowerShell or Python scripting frameworks to automate routine configuration audits, or utilize Infrastructure-as-Code platforms like Ansible and Terraform.
Customer Management & Technical Documentation
- Maintain Professionalism: Represent the global support brand through a calm, polite, and highly professional approach when interfacing with client executives under pressure.
- Author Incident Reports: Generate pristine, auditable technical documentation, tracking metrics, root-cause analyses, and closed-ticket logs immediately following every intervention.
Expected Outputs & Deliverables
- Immediate, SLA-compliant arrival and diagnostics for all dispatched on-call service tickets.
- Systematic resolution summaries detailing the hardware or software fixes applied to Nutanix or Cisco nodes.
- Flawlessly closed tickets featuring accurate incident logs, configurations, and user sign-offs.
- Clean deployment and upgrade validations performed without causing unexpected cascading outages across client networks.
