Job Summary
The New Grad Software Engineer contributes to the full-stack architecture, backend API services, and user-facing dashboards powering micro1's core AI Recruiter agent, Zara. Primary daily duties include writing clean TypeScript code using React and Node.js, designing scalable relational data models in PostgreSQL, participating in peer code reviews, debugging production edge cases, and working with product teams to turn abstract agent logic into highly responsive user experiences.
Foundational Engineering & Academic Prerequisites
- Academic Path: Recent graduate (or currently completing your final semester) with a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a highly quantitative software discipline.
- Portfolio Foundation: Practical, hands-on application development history demonstrated through competitive software engineering internships, advanced academic research projects, or sophisticated personal code repositories (e.g., GitHub portfolios, hackathon wins).
- Core Language Fluency: Exceptional, rock-solid engineering fundamentals in JavaScript and TypeScript.
- Frontend Mechanics: Strong practical familiarity with building responsive, component-driven user interfaces using React (or closely related modern component frameworks).
- Backend Fundamentals: Sound structural understanding of server-side software engineering utilizing Node.js to manage asynchronous logic loops.
- Database Data Modeling: Exposure to relational database management engines, specifically PostgreSQL, along with a clear conceptual grasp of indices, schemas, and relational data modeling.
- API Network Protocols: A clear, foundational comprehension of how RESTful APIs operate, how application states communicate across network barriers, and how to structure secure JSON payloads.
- Personal Attributes: Relentless intellectual curiosity, an elite attention to detail, a passion for code cleanliness, and an intense willingness to learn complex software architectures under senior guidance.
Preferred Technical Multipliers (Nice to Have)
- Industry Experience: Previous internship experience operating within a dedicated commercial software engineering or high-growth SaaS product team.
- Cloud Infrastructure: Foundational exposure to deploying and maintaining applications on major cloud platforms, specifically Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud Platform (GCP), or Azure.
- DevOps & Tooling: Practical familiarity with version control via Git, modern CI/CD automation pipelines, containerization (Docker), or basic deployment scripting.
- AI Domain Affinity: A genuine personal interest in generative AI, large language models, autonomous developer agents, data-driven software design, or building complex, multi-agent systems.
Key Responsibilities
1. Full-Stack Feature Production & Agent Engineering (40%)
- Evolve the Zara Agent Ecosystem: Design, code, and optimize full-stack features powering Zara, our autonomous AI Recruiter, improving how it handles natural conversations and evaluations.
- Build Clean Backend APIs: Develop robust, well-documented RESTful API microservices inside Node.js under the guidance of senior mentors, maintaining complete code readability.
- Ship User-Facing Interfaces: Create highly responsive, intuitive user dashboards and front-end components using React, shipping features directly to active enterprise users.
2. Database Modeling & Scalability Stewardship (25%)
- Optimize Data Architecture: Collaborate on database schema design, writing clean, optimized SQL queries inside PostgreSQL to handle heavy real-time data flows seamlessly.
- Learn Performance Best Practices: Undergo advanced training from senior platform engineers on query indexing, data caching strategies, and distributed database scaling paradigms.
3. Engineering Quality, Testing & Production Maintenance (20%)
- Drive Peer Code Reviews: Engage actively in regular peer code reviews, using feedback to learn micro1's strict engineering standards and provide value to your team.
- Debug Production Incidents: Investigate system exceptions, profile runtime errors, and write reliable bug fixes to protect application performance across production environments.
4. Cross-Functional Collaboration & Product Velocity (15%)
- Translate Product Concepts: Partner with product managers and product designers to break down abstract feature requests into clean, maintainable technical tasks.
