Job Summary
The Mechanical Engineering Intern will actively support the Energy and Swap Systems (ESS) Squad. The position focuses on executing mechanical CAD modeling, building and validating physical prototypes, designing specialized operational tools or fixtures, and translating customer feedback into continuous hardware improvements.
Qualification
Candidates must meet the following baseline educational and language standards:
- Required Education: Must be currently enrolled in the final year (last year) of an undergraduate or advanced degree program in Mechanical Engineering.
- Technical Communication: Professional fluency in written and spoken English with an ability to communicate technical concepts clearly.
Experience
Candidates should possess the following foundational technical competencies and skills:
- CAD Modeling & Drafting: Proven ability to perform Computer-Aided Design (CAD) modeling and a strong capability to read and interpret complex technical engineering drawings.
- Design Fundamentals: Solid understanding of basic mechanical engineering design principles and structural analysis concepts.
- Prototyping & Testing: Practical knowledge or baseline exposure to physical prototyping workflows, hardware testing methodologies, and empirical data collection.
- Feedback Integration: Familiarity with gathering direct performance feedback from end-users or field customers to iterate on physical designs.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Exceptional mechanical intuition matched with a highly creative, proactive approach to engineering troubleshooting.
- Learning Agility: Demonstrated capacity to function as a fast learner who thrives in an agile, fast-paced team environment.
Key Responsibilities
Tool Design & Prototyping Engineering
- Execute CAD Designs: Develop digital models and design various specialized tools, components, and functional fixtures aligned with battery swap infrastructure needs.
- Build Physical Prototypes: Assist directly in the hands-on fabrication, assembly, and physical construction of engineering prototypes.
- Conduct Hardware Testing: Implement structural and functional test protocols on newly built prototype components to evaluate durability and real-world viability.
Customer Feedback & Continuous Improvement
- Collect Field Feedback: Interface with operational teams and commercial drivers to gather user experiences regarding developed engineering items.
- Iterate and Optimize: Translate collected customer feedback and operational data into design improvements, enhancing tool efficiency and safety.
- Collaborate within the ESS Squad: Participate actively in team brainstorms, supporting internal collaboration to solve evolving mechanical issues.
