Job Summary
The Loss Prevention Officer conducts property patrols, monitors CCTV and alarm systems, conducts daily physical hazard inspections, and responds to medical or safety emergencies (administering first aid/CPR as required). This officer de-escalates disturbances, escorts unwelcome persons from the property, investigates incidents, writes detailed reports, and upholds guest service standards in accordance with Marriott International policies.
Key Roles & Operational Responsibilities
1. Property Patrols, Monitoring & Hazard Prevention
- Security Patrols: Conduct regular physical patrols of all interior and exterior areas of the property, securing entrances/exits when scheduled and assisting guests with room access.
- Surveillance Management: Monitor Closed Circuit Televisions (CCTV), perimeter alarms, duress systems, and fire/life safety equipment continuously.
- Hazard Audits: Perform daily physical inspections across the hotel to identify, resolve, and report safety hazards or maintenance risks.
2. Emergency Response, Investigations & Incident Handling
- Emergency Intervention: Respond immediately to accidents, medical crises, fire alarms, or attacks—contacting EMS, administering first aid/CPR, and assisting guests and employees during emergencies.
- Conflict De-escalation: Defuse guest or employee disturbances calmly, calling for external law enforcement or emergency support when necessary.
- Investigative Reporting: Conduct initial investigations, interview relevant parties, gather evidence, and author clear, objective incident reports and daily Loss Prevention shift summaries.
- Escort Duties: Safely escort unwelcome or unauthorized persons off the property without disrupting normal hotel operations.
3. Guest Service, Compliance & Team Collaboration
- Hospitality Excellence: Welcome and acknowledge all guests according to Marriott standards, anticipate service needs, support individuals with disabilities, and handle interruptions with professional composure.
- Confidentiality & Compliance: Protect proprietary company assets and maintain strict confidentiality of all Security/Loss Prevention reports, documents, and guest records.
- Cross-Functional Support: Utilize hotel IT/POS systems to log information, assist supervisors with extra duties, and foster positive, supportive relationships across all hotel departments.
Foundational Capabilities & Prerequisites
Preferred Qualifications & Experience
- Education Baseline: High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
- Related Experience: No prior experience required (entry-level role with complete on-the-job training).
- Supervisory Experience: None required.
- Licenses/Certifications: None required prior to hire (first aid/CPR and safety certifications will be completed during employment).
Physical Capabilities & Operational Requirements
- Ability to stand, sit, walk, run, jog, or move rapidly for an extended period or full work shift.
- Ability to bend, twist, stoop, reach overhead, and navigate narrow, confined, elevated, or slippery surfaces and stairwells.
- Capability to lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing up to 50 lbs unassisted and over 75 lbs with assistance.
- Fine motor skills and visual acuity to inspect machinery/tools, read fine print, and operate computer systems.
