Job Summary

The Senior Maintenance Engineer will execute complex MEP system repairs, diagnose HVAC and commercial refrigeration malfunctions, run property rounds as the Engineer on Duty, enforce Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) protocols, and maintain inventory controls using engineering software.

Qualification

• Mandatory Licensing & Certifications:
  • Active, valid Universal Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) Certification (EPA Section 608) for handling refrigerants.
  • A valid, active Driver’s License.
  • Complete compliance with all applicable state and federal technical licensing and certification mandates.
• Formal Education (Preferred): A High School Diploma, G.E.D. equivalent, or a dedicated vocational/technical background in building trades, electrical engineering, or commercial HVAC systems.
• Schematic & Software Literacy: Advanced proficiency reading standard blueprints and electrical schematics for complex plumbing and HVAC layouts, paired with advanced knowledge of engineering computer programs for preventative maintenance and energy management.
• Core Technical Skill Grid: Candidates must prove an above-average engineering operations skill set, a strong general mechanical ability, and meet the following skill layout:
  • Above-Average Skills: Required in at least three (3) of the core categories below.
  • Proficiency: Required in at least three (3) more of the core categories below.
  • Basic Skills: Required across the remaining categories.
  • Categories: Air conditioning and refrigeration, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, pneumatic/electronic systems and controls, carpentry and finish skills, kitchen equipment, vehicles, energy conservation, and general building management.

Experience

Candidates must bring a deep background in commercial building systems and structured safety environments:

Commercial Facilities & MEP Systems

• Hospitality Maintenance Longevity: A minimum of two (2) years of dedicated, hands-on hotel engineering or hospitality property maintenance experience.
• Extensive Trade Training: Verified experience and advanced training in general maintenance, commercial electrical panels, refrigeration circuits, parts inventory requisition, and surface prep/painting.
• Heavy Equipment Troubleshooting: Proven history troubleshooting all types of commercial property equipment (e.g., executing pump and motor replacements), electrical equipment, HVAC units, internet devices, and commercial pool heaters.
• Industrial Safety Mindset: Demonstrated knowledge and active application of Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) systems and hazardous material storage protocols before executing maintenance work.

Physical Agility & Guest Engagement

• Physical Capability: Ability to safely lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing up to 50 pounds (22.6 kg) without assistance, and manage heavier loads with team support.
• Spatial Dexterity: Comfort ascending and descending stairs, service ramps, and structural ladders; ability to reach overhead, work below the knees, bend, twist, pull, crawl, and stoop.
• Luxury Guest Service: Background welcoming and acknowledging guests warmly, anticipating service needs, and working comfortably with individuals with disabilities.

Key Responsibilities

Advanced MEP Troubleshooting & Heavy Repairs

• Execute Highly Complex Repairs: Diagnose and resolve structural, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical malfunctions, ensuring all methods and materials comply with local and national codes.
• Perform System Diagnostics: Replace failing commercial pumps and motors, clear complex plumbing blockages, swap out faulty electrical switches/outlets, and program room technologies.
• Run Engineer on Duty Rotations: Conduct thorough facility rounds, document gauge and utility readings, and maintain an updated log of all equipment shut-off valves.
• Govern Lockout/Tagout Safety: Apply strict Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures to guarantee a safe workplace prior to performing maintenance on heavy machinery.

Preventative Maintenance & Technical Operations

• Manage Plant Assets: Perform cleaning, lubrication, and visual inspections on tools and machinery to keep property systems running at peak efficiency.
• Leverage Engineering Software: Navigate energy management networks and preventative maintenance programs to optimize automated building functions.
• Control Technical Inventory: Maintain an accurate maintenance inventory, tracking parts usage and submitting accurate supply requisitions as needed.
• Coordinate Across Shifts: Communicate daily activities, property updates, and outstanding maintenance issues to incoming teams using approved logbooks and digital communication programs.
• Train & Mentor Teams: Act as an on-site technical mentor, training junior engineers on tool safety, code compliance, and repair methods.
