Purpose of Position:

- Support VFR in accomplishing its objectives, creating, protecting, and sustaining value by providing independent, risk-based, and objective assurance over risk management, control, and governance processes.
- Monitor VFR’s compliance with existing laws, rules, and regulations in the country.
- Advise the VFR Board of Directors and Management on the adequacy and effectiveness of internal control systems and risk management.
- Perform any statutory function related to Internal Audit required by regulators of VFR.
Major Responsibilities:
- % Time: (5%) Planning
- Develop and submit for approval to the BAC an annual audit plan that outlines activities for the Internal Audit Department (IAD) during the year.
- Prepare amended internal audit plans for significant shifts in risk profiles or changes in operations.
- % Time: (15%) Reporting
- Submit timely reports to management for all audits conducted during the year.
- Track implementation of issues/corrective actions from audit reports.
- % Time: (40%) Audit Work
- Carry out the Internal Audit Plan.
- Ensure all audit testing is documented and archived.
- Independently appraise all operational functions.
- % Time: (20%) Supervision and Training
- Supervise and motivate Internal Auditors.
- Ensure all IAD staff complete required CPE hours every year.
- % Time: (5%) Assist in Fraud Investigations
- Assist in the execution of external audits and monitor implementation of issues raised by external auditors.
- % Time: (5%) Meeting Budget
- Prepare the IAD budget in line with the Annual Plan.
- Ensure actual expenses do not exceed the budget.
- % Time: (5%) Quality Assurance
- Supervise engagement planning and facilitate an internal quality assurance review.
- % Time: (5%) Relationship Building
- Build strong working relationships with the CEO, Senior Management, and external regulators/auditors.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Minimum Qualifications:
- University degree in accountancy or business administration.
- Professional accounting (CPA/ACCA) or MBA qualification required; CISA certification will be an advantage.
- Minimum of 5 years audit experience in banking supervision and/or microfinance, with a minimum of 2 years in leadership roles.
- Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Experience:
- Understanding of relevant accounting and loan tracking software.
- Good communication skills in English and Kinyarwanda.
License, Registration, or Certification Required:
- CA, CIA, CPA, ACCA or equivalent.
