Job Summary
The Geospatial Analysis Specialist designs, manages, and automates advanced spatial workflows while auditing geographical training data for generative AI systems. Core daily tasks include architecting spatial databases, developing custom QGIS plugins using PyQGIS, automating complex geoprocessing models, validating spatial reasoning logic chains, producing professional cartographic visualizations, and translating complex technical geographic concepts into highly structured training inputs.
Required Technical Foundations & Spatial Expertise
- QGIS Mastery: Expert-level proficiency within the QGIS ecosystem, including advanced spatial database management, complex geoprocessing workflows, and professional cartographic map production.
- Python Automation (PyQGIS): Strong programming proficiency in Python, characterized by hands-on experience writing automation scripts and custom geoprocessing routines natively within QGIS (PyQGIS).
- Plugin Development: Proven technical ability to customize, extend, and maintain QGIS platforms through custom plugin development or advanced system scripting.
- Geodetic Competence: A thorough, unyielding understanding of spatial projections, coordinate reference systems (CRS), geometric transformations, and geographic data formats.
- Technical Communication: Exceptional written and verbal English communication skills, allowing you to clearly explain dense, highly technical spatial concepts to both technical engineering squads and non-technical stakeholders.
- Data Integrity & Precision: High attention to detail with an established track record of maintaining data integrity, managing conflicting database priorities, and organizing complex spatial records.
Preferred Technical Assets & Industry Experience
- Remote Operations Fluency: Direct experience working successfully within remote, asynchronously distributed teams, or supporting external global enterprise customers.
- Open-Source & Cloud Web Tools: Structural familiarity with additional open-source GIS tools (e.g., PostGIS, GDAL/OGR) or modern cloud-based geospatial platforms (e.g., Google Earth Engine, CARTO).
- Target Industry Footprint: Background applying advanced spatial analysis within dedicated professional fields such as environmental science, urban planning, civil infrastructure, or resource management.
Key Responsibilities
1. Advanced Geoprocessing, Spatial Modeling & QGIS Architecture (40%)
- Conduct Spatial Modeling: Execute high-level geoprocessing, raster/vector overlays, and advanced spatial modeling within QGIS to transform raw geographic arrays into clear, actionable data.
- Manage Spatial Databases: Design, structure, and maintain internal spatial databases, ensuring total data integrity, cross-layer accuracy, and seamless asset retrieval across multiple data tracks.
- Build Cartographic Layouts: Generate high-quality, professional cartographic maps and advanced data visualizations tailored for complex reports, presentations, and decision-support systems.
- Validate Spatial Logic: Review and audit AI-generated spatial reasoning explanations, geometric calculations, and mapping steps to ensure absolute mathematical and scientific accuracy.
2. Python Automation & QGIS Plugin Engineering (35%)
- Automate Workflows with PyQGIS: Code, test, and deploy robust Python (PyQGIS) scripts to fully automate repetitive geospatial analysis workflows, drastically maximizing processing speeds and reproducibility.
- Develop Custom Plugins: Design, build, and maintain specialized QGIS plugins and system extensions tailored precisely around project specifications and data collection pipelines.
- Integrate Diverse Formats: Build automated scripts to ingest, transform, and clean disparate geographic formats, seamlessly resolving projection mismatches and attribute data gaps.
3. Cross-Functional Collaboration & Technical Communication (25%)
- Coordinate with Engineering Teams: Collaborate closely with cross-functional AI data managers, software engineers, and domain experts to translate complex data requests into functional geospatial solutions.
- Explain Geographic Concepts: Author highly scannable documentation, guidelines, and technical explanations deconstructing complex spatial concepts (e.g., topological rules, projection distortions) for diverse project groups.
- Manage Project Deliverables: Maintain strict organization and detail-oriented oversight across multiple tracking boards, delivering verified spatial datasets inside fast-moving timelines.
Core Competencies & Skills
- Methodical Spatial Logic: An exceptional ability to map out, analyze, and troubleshoot complex spatial relationships and coordinate transformations without error.
- Rigid Scripting Discipline: A clean, structured approach to writing Python code, ensuring automated workflows are highly reusable, well-documented, and easily shared.
- Strategic Cartographic Design: A strong professional eye for map production, selecting the optimal visual layout and data presentation to fit specific decision-making settings.
- Asynchronous Team Adaptability: A self-directed, highly reliable working style that communicates clearly and tracks project goals accurately from a remote home office.
