Job Summary
The Game Developer uses Java programming and the libGDX framework to design and optimize 2D game features, structure efficient input management pipelines, and build robust game loops. By collaborating closely with machine learning teams, this position turns game mechanics into concrete training setups that help train and refine next-generation AI logic systems.
Qualification
Educational Level
- Minimum Requirement: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Game Design, Software Engineering, or a heavily quantitative discipline.
- Alternative Pathway: Equivalent verifiable proof of software development proficiency (such as an active GitHub repository, independent game releases, or completion of specialized game jams and programming bootcamps).
Experience
Candidates must demonstrate a solid understanding of software logic and game loop architecture:
Object-Oriented Logic & Framework Fluency
- Programming Background: Strong knowledge of Java syntax, memory management, data structures, and core Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) principles.
- Framework Experience: Practical, hands-on experience building or prototyping with the libGDX framework—gained through professional work, academic coursework, personal projects, or standalone game demos.
- Core Game Mechanics: Clear understanding of fundamental 2D game systems, including state management, delta time rendering, sprites, texture mapping, atlas packaging, and multi-device input management.
Mathematics & Systems Maintenance
- Linear Algebra Fundamentals (Preferred): Familiarity with 2D coordinate vectors, basic collision detection logic (AABB bounding boxes), or primitive 2D physics properties.
- Version Control Architecture: Experience using Git ecosystems for branching codebases, tracking changes, and resolving merge conflicts cleanly.
- Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a focus on writing clear code comments and detailed technical documentation for distributed teams.
Key Responsibilities
1. 2D Game Architecture & Interaction Design (40%)
- Develop Game Features: Design, write, and deploy modular 2D game modules and interactive challenges using Java and libGDX frameworks.
- Optimize Game Loops: Structure efficient rendering loops, manage frame rates, and fine-tune input handling layers to ensure smooth performance across various deployment environments.
- Implement Asset Workflows: Handle runtime asset loading, manage texture maps, and configure camera viewpoints to keep game interfaces responsive and organized.
2. AI Collaboration & Training Integration (30%)
- Partner with AI Teams: Collaborate with machine learning specialists to design game modules that provide high-quality data paths for evaluation.
- Build Evaluation Scenarios: Create predictable, rule-based game scenarios that challenge and measure an AI agent's logic, pathfinding, and decision-making speeds.
- Debug Source Code: Diagnose and eliminate code bugs, resource leaks, or performance drops to keep testing setups reliable.
3. Documentation, Code Quality & Versioning (30%)
- Document Workflows: Write clear, step-by-step documentation detailing game mechanics, engine configurations, and asset steps for non-technical team members.
- Participate in Reviews: Engage actively in peer code reviews to maintain clean code, enforce internal styling choices, and keep libraries modular.
- Manage Code Iterations: Use Git pipelines to manage code changes cleanly, ensuring stable builds across a fully remote, distributed engineering team.
Expected Outputs & Deliverables
- Clean, compile-ready, and well-structured Java/libGDX source code files that follow object-oriented design principles.
- Fully documented, playable 2D game builds or prototypes configured for AI agent testing.
- Technical setup guides and API summaries explaining input controls and engine rules.
- Consistent, documented contributions to shared Git repositories, complete with detailed commit logs.
