Job Summary
The English Language Expert creates high-quality writing prompts, audits model reasoning steps, and rates text outputs for generative AI models. Core daily tasks include identifying subtle errors in syntax and logic, fact-checking model claims, writing clear explanations for stylistic edits, evaluating text structures across multiple reading levels, and using generative tools to verify model alignment.
Required Academic Foundations & Linguistic Competence
- Educational Background: Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Linguistics, English, Translation/Localization, Communications, Journalism, or a directly related humanistic discipline.
- English Command Mastery: Complete, advanced command of the English language (minimum C1 proficiency required; native-level or C2 mastery is highly preferred).
- Structural Text Mechanics: Strong, professional-grade understanding of grammar, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, discourse structure, and stylistic editing across varied reading registers (from casual chat to technical prose).
- Analytical Diagnostics: Exceptional attention to detail in identifying meaning drift, textual ambiguity, logical gaps, and subtle factual errors, backed by the ability to explain corrections clearly in writing.
- Formatting Protocol Literacy: Complete comfort digesting dense project style guides and enforcing absolute formatting consistency (including tone, technical terminology, punctuation, and capitalization rule sets).
- Operating Independence: Highly responsible, self-directed working habits, enabling you to deliver consistent quality within an hourly, remote contractor workflow across diverse time zones.
Tool History & Preferred Technical Qualifications
- Generative Interface Fluency: Strong, hands-on professional or personal experience utilizing modern generative tools and conversational engines, such as Perplexity, Gemini, and ChatGPT.
- Data Training Background: Prior experience operating within AI data training models, prompt annotation loops, editorial quality assurance (QA), localization QA, or professional copyediting environments is strongly preferred.
- Multi-Lingual Footprint: Multilingual capabilities (demonstrated professional proficiency or translation skill in at least one additional global language besides English) are highly regarded and prioritize your profile for multi-market project tracks.
Key Responsibilities
1. AI Training Content Generation & Prompt Design (40%)
- Draft Complex Prompts: Create detailed, targeted prompts across various academic and practical subjects to test and guide AI model reasoning steps.
- Write Ideal Solutions: Write high-quality, comprehensive reference answers that show correct formatting, clear logic flow, and proper register tones.
- Simulate Target Personas: Design prompt conditions that challenge model conversational styles, checking how well systems adapt to specific professional registers.
2. Comprehensive Linguistic Audit & Response Ranking (40%)
- Identify Meaning Drift: Audit AI outputs to spot subtle errors in logic, meaning, methodology, conceptual understanding, or hidden phrasing biases.
- Rate Model Responses: Compare and rank multiple model outputs against strict quality rubrics, scoring text clarity, fluency, and user prompt matching.
- Edit Text Structures: Restructure weak AI outputs into natural text, fixing broken syntax, poor transitions, or word choices that sound robotic.
- Verify Facts: Check factual claims, historical details, and citations within model texts against verified data sources, eliminating hallucinations.
3. Model Integrity Testing & Style Guide Enforcement (20%)
- Test Safety Metrics: Test model outputs against safety rubrics to flag toxic language, bias risks, or contradictions across common use cases.
- Apply Style Rubrics: Check that all edited and evaluated text matches project style guides, keeping tone, technical terms, and punctuation consistent.
- Write Correction Notes: Write clear, educational markdown comments explaining why an output was changed, helping internal teams track model error patterns.
Core Competencies & Skills
- Advanced Semantic Breakdown: The analytical ability to spot tiny changes in meaning, missing context, or structural logic flaws across long text passages.
- Adaptable Writing Styles: The talent to shift writing styles easily, moving comfortably from academic text to creative copywriting or technical documentation.
- Structured Feedback Scribing: A clear, organized approach to writing feedback, ensuring translation and grammar critiques are easy for internal teams to implement.
- Independent Pipeline Management: Strong self-scheduling habits, keeping you focused and accurate while delivering checked data assets under fast sprint deadlines.
