Job Summary
The Dental Hygienist conducts professional preventative oral hygiene treatments, performs detailed oral disease screenings, takes and processes dental radiographs, and counsels patients on proper oral maintenance. This specialist orchestrates the creation, filing, and lifelong tracking of official government Medical/Dental records, manages clinical instrument sterilization workflows, enforces OSHA compliance, and coordinates with dentists to deliver comprehensive healthcare under strict military regulatory parameters.
Key Roles & Operational Responsibilities
1. Preventative Oral Care & Diagnostic Radiography
- Clinical Hygiene Delivery: Conduct comprehensive dental hygiene procedures, including advanced teeth cleaning, root scaling, and polishing, to prevent and mitigate oral health degradation.
- Oral Health Assessments: Perform initial oral screenings, mapping patient dental alignment and identifying indicators of cavities, gingivitis, periodontitis, or alternative systemic oral diseases.
- Radiological Ingestion: Take, develop, and log clear dental x-rays, maintaining uncompromising safety, exposure limits, and quality standards during imaging.
- Patient Education: Deliver structured oral wellness coaching and preventative counseling, reinforcing appropriate brushing, flossing, and localized maintenance practices.
2. Government Records Management & Regulatory Compliance
- Record Architecture: Create and maintain individual, official Medical/Dental record jackets immediately upon employee arrival at the OCONUS station, ensuring absolute compliance with government standards.
- Data Integration: Audit and compile complete historical profiles within record files, including pre-employment physicals, medical histories, occupational surveillance logs, injuries, and diagnostic x-rays.
- Critical Visual Tagging: Clearly mark record jackets with high-visibility patient metrics, highlighting severe allergies, blood types, and specific occupational surveillance status dates.
- Audit Preparedness: Maintain and update dental records throughout the employee’s assignment timeline, protecting them as official government property open to unannounced government inspection and review.
3. Clinic Workflows, Sterilization & Safety Enforcement
- Infection Control Governance: Manage dental clinic equipment, tracking routine tool cleaning, autoclave sterilization cycles, and structural instrument organization in line with strict OSHA and infection control guidelines.
- Collaborative Continuity: Partner alongside deployed dentists to deliver comprehensive clinical outcomes, providing follow-up recommendations and tracking treatment progressions.
- Amentum Safety & Quality Culture: Conform to the company's safety culture and quality policies, participating in emergency response drills, fulfilling self-aid/buddy-aid expectations, and implementing environmental requirements.
Foundational Capabilities & Prerequisites
Required Technical Profile & Experience
- Academic Foundation: Successful completion of an accredited Dental Hygienist program.
- Licensure Command: Active, valid licensure as a Dental Hygienist in strict accordance with recognized U.S. standards.
- Experience Baseline: One (1) to three (3) years of progressive professional experience operating as a practicing dental hygienist, showing deep familiarity with routine cleanings and diagnostic screenings.
- Radiology Certification: Documented, active certification in dental radiology with proven proficiency in capturing and developing x-rays.
- Clinical System Awareness: Sound functional understanding of infection control practices, medical sterilization protocols, and daily dental clinic operations.
- Logistics Readiness: Must possess a valid passport at the time of hiring, with a minimum remaining validity of one (1) year or more, and maintain full readiness for international travel.
- Medical Fitness: Ability to pass rigorous contract medical evaluation parameters and maintain deployment health standards for the contract duration.
Preferred Qualifications
- Austere OCONUS Record: Prior professional experience working within an austere OCONUS environment alongside a diverse, multi-national workforce.
- Government System Familiarity: Experience tracking Medical/Dental records within a military or government healthcare environment, maintaining strict adherence to HIPAA guidelines.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with NAVMED regulations or related military dental record documentation standards.
- Digital System Competency: Experience utilizing modern Electronic Health Record (EHR) databases to update and verify patient health files.
- Life Support Credentials: Active CPR or Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Licensing Elements: Valid country driver's license and applicable visa alignments matching the U.S. Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide.
