Job Summary
The Creative Writer is tasked with authoring, editing, and packaging external-facing communication assets and technical knowledge products for the LEAP Centre while integrating seamlessly with the broader UGHE Marketing and Communications team. The portfolio spans newsletter production, website copywriting, social media content curation, scriptwriting for audiovisual media, event promotion, and translating complex epidemiological or operational research into accessible public narratives.
Key Responsibilities
Editorial Voice & Written Communications Management
- Support the strategy: Collaborate closely with LEAP Leadership and the Program Manager to design, iterate, and execute LEAP’s overarching global engagement and communications strategy.
- Define the voice: Uphold and champion the LEAP Centre’s specific editorial voice, refining the tone, written style, and structural language across all public platforms to ensure brand consistency.
- Develop foundational assets: Author high-quality internal and external materials that articulate LEAP's mission and impact, including annual reports, promotional newsletters, summary briefs, case studies, white papers, and corporate op-eds.
- Maintain digital presence: Manage and update all written content across the LEAP Centre's website landing pages and social media channels in alignment with PIH, UGHE, and LEAP standards.
Narrative Translation, Knowledge Packaging & Multimedia Production
- Translate technical content: Unpack dense scientific data, health system trial results, and clinical training methodologies into highly accessible, engaging narratives for non-technical audiences, donors, and potential collaborators.
- Package knowledge products: Lead the writing, structural organizing, and aesthetic messaging of evidence-to-practice toolkits, policy advisories, and program summaries.
- Script audiovisual media: Author compelling voiceover scripts, video treatments, storyboard narratives, and digital multimedia outlines to support LEAP's visual storytelling campaigns.
- Support events & promotion: Draft promotional copy, press releases, post-event summaries, and marketing materials for high-level LEAP Centre launches, academic symposiums, and webinars.
Qualifications & Experience
Education
- Degree Requirement: A formal degree in communications, Journalism, Public Health, International Development, or a closely related field is required.
- Preferred Education: A master's degree in Global Health Communications, Public Health, or a writing-intensive discipline is strongly preferred.
- Portfolio Requirement: A portfolio of published or distributed written work, including at least one long-form piece (such as a report, white paper, case study, or feature article), is required in lieu of or in addition to formal qualifications.
Experience
- Professional Track Record: Minimum of 3–5 years of demonstrated professional writing experience, with at least some portion spent within a global health, academic, or research-adjacent environment.
- Content Delivery: Demonstrated ability to produce high-quality long-form and short-form written content, including formal reports, case studies, op-eds, and narrative briefs, tailored for diverse target audiences.
- Technical Translation: Proven experience translating highly technical or scientific content into accessible, compelling narratives for non-specialist audiences.
- Contextual Knowledge: Familiarity with global health, health systems strengthening, or international development contexts.
Additional Assets
- Experience working with web content management systems or specialized social media writing.
- Experience scripting videos or developing detailed story treatments for multimedia content production.
