This includes reviewing contractor schedules, approving technical submittals, enforcing field quality controls, resolving spatial and scheduling interfaces, and managing pre-commissioning activities prior to the formal commissioning phase.
Qualification
- Educational Background: A formal University Degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
- Professional Standing: Active professional membership in an accredited engineering body is preferred.
- Technical Competency: Strong technical capability across at least two MEP disciplines (such as Mechanical & Electrical, Electrical & Instrumentation, or Mechanical & Plumbing).
- Blueprint Literacy: Advanced ability to fluidly read, interpret, and cross-reference complex MEP engineering drawings and technical specifications.
Experience
Candidates must demonstrate a solid track record of field execution on complex building structures:
Construction Management & Asset Scale
- On-Site Industry Tenure: A minimum of ten (10) years of direct, hands-on MEP construction management experience specifically focused on major building or infrastructure projects.
- Asset Class Layout: Direct experience managing MEP packages on complex, multi-package projects. Prior project experience within airport terminals or major transport infrastructure hubs is highly preferred.
- Geographic Profile: Prior professional experience working within Sub-Saharan Africa or navigating challenging supply chain environments is highly advantageous.
Coordination, Quality & Testing Literacy
- Interface Resolution: Proven capability managing spatial and structural sequencing interfaces between competing mechanical, electrical, civil, and special systems contractors.
- Testing Familiarity: Firm familiarity with structured MEP commissioning processes, quality testing requirements, and technical documentation.
Key Responsibilities
Field Supervision, Quality & Procurement Oversight
- Manage Day-to-Day Delivery: Oversee the daily on-site installation contracts across vital packages, including HVAC, electrical distribution, plumbing, fire systems, and standby power.
- Enforce Quality Compliance: Maintain strict quality standards on all physical installations by managing ITP (Inspection and Test Plan) hold points, witness testing routines, and issuing formal Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) for non-compliant works.
- Review Technical Submittals: Evaluate contractor shop drawings, material submittals, and technical data sheets, coordinating the formal approval process alongside the designated MEP design consultant.
- Monitor Long-Lead Equipment: Actively track incoming long-lead equipment delivery schedules against the master program, flagging potential logistical delays and detailing actionable mitigation options.
Contract Coordination, Risk Mitigation & Pre-Commissioning
- Challenge Contractor Programmes: Review, stress-test, and challenge short-term contractor schedules, proactively identifying and escalating construction risks to the Senior MEP Manager.
- Resolve Sequencing Interfaces: Coordinate physical interfaces between MEP contractors and civil, structural, or special systems teams to resolve spatial clashes and sequencing conflicts.
- Chair Coordination Meetings: Lead routine MEP coordination assemblies with contractors and designers, keeping an active, accurate log of RFIs and technical queries.
- Oversee Pre-Commissioning: Direct initial pre-commissioning activities, system flushing operations, and mandatory statutory testing routines prior to the formal commissioning handover.
- Contribute to Project Reporting: Deliver precise MEP progress tracking data and operational commentary for integration into the project's monthly progress reporting cycle.
