Job Summary
The Community and Communications Associate plays a key role in strengthening Chancen Rwanda’s engagement with its community while amplifying the organization’s voice across both digital and offline platforms. In this role, community refers to the broader network of Chancen members, including all ISA beneficiaries such as students currently in school, graduates in the repayment phase, and those who have fully completed their ISA obligations.
The Associate is responsible for creating and managing engaging content, coordinating communication campaigns, and supporting events and outreach initiatives, while fostering meaningful relationships with Chancen’s community and external partners. Through clear, consistent, and impactful messaging, the role helps raise awareness of Chancen Rwanda’s work, encourages active participation, and strengthens trust and collaboration across all audiences.
Key Responsibilities
Community Engagement
- Support the planning and implementation of community activities, including events, workshops, mentorship sessions, and networking forums (both in-person and virtual).
- Coordinate engagement with students, graduates, mentors, Community Foundation Council members, and partners to ensure strong participation and inclusion.
- Maintain regular communication with community members through WhatsApp groups, email, and other platforms to share opportunities, updates, and reminders.
- Support outreach to graduates for career support activities, surveys, and feedback collection.
- Collect and document community feedback, participation data, and testimonials to inform program improvements.
- Support on-the-ground logistics during community events, including registration, attendance tracking, and coordination with internal teams.
- Act as a bridge between community members and the Chancen team, escalating concerns or insights where needed.
- Manage the Community budget for Rwanda, tracking budget spend every month and planning work efficiently to stay within budget.
Communications
- Support the creation and dissemination of content across Chancen Rwanda’s communication channels, including social media, newsletters, and community announcements.
- Identify, document, and draft compelling stories and testimonials from students and graduates that highlight Chancen's impact.
- Support the design and distribution of branded merchandise for staff, students, alumni, and partners.
- Support Member communication and marketing material creation using tools such as Canva for posters, flyers, and digital assets.
- Track and support reporting on engagement metrics (event attendance, reach, feedback) for internal learning and communications purposes.
- Coordinate with other departments to gather accurate information, updates, and content for communications.
- Support in taking quality photos and videos of key events, including onboarding sessions, graduations, and MOU signings, to use in communications
- Respond to inquiries received through communication platforms within 24 hours and direct them appropriately when needed.
- Manage the Communications budget for Rwanda, tracking budget spend monthly and planning work efficiently to stay within budget.
Requirements
Technical Skills, Competencies & Experience:
- Minimum Diploma in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, Development Studies, or a related field
- Minimum 1-2 years of experience in communications, marketing, community engagement, social media management, or stakeholder relations, preferably in non-profit, education, youth-focused, or development organizations.
- Experience using social media platforms (LinkedIn, X, Instagram, Facebook) and content creation tools such as Canva and Adobe editing tools (e.g. Photoshop).
- Basic photography and visual content skills, including capturing and editing photos or short videos for digital platforms.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, storytelling ability, community engagement skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience in reporting, event support, and content coordination, with familiarity using Google Workspace, email communication tools (e.g Mailchimp), and CRM systems.
