Job Summary
Kigali Marriott Hotel is hiring a Cluster Tax and Compliance Manager in Kigali, Rwanda. Requiring a 4-year degree in Finance and Accounting and 1+ years of audit/accounting experience, this role oversees Marriott control environments, executes SRA and quarterly SOP audits, ensures tax/regulatory compliance, and trains hotel operational leaders.
Key Roles & Operational Responsibilities
1. Control Environment & Audit Management
- SOP & Audit Execution: Coordinate, implement, and follow up on Accounting SOP audits across all operational departments within the property/cluster.
- Marriott Risk Frameworks: Apply Marriott Department Risk Assessment Tools, quarterly audit protocols, and Standard Risk Assessment (SRA) requirements to verify operational compliance.
- Control Safeguards: Maintain a strong internal control environment to safeguard hotel assets, prevent financial discrepancies, and enforce anti-fraud policies.
2. Tax, Financial & Operational Compliance
- Regulatory Alignment: Ensure all financial practices comply with Rwandan national tax laws, local business regulations, and federal/state fraud and collection standards.
- Month-End Financial Controls: Complete month-end audit functions, verify accurate documentation of profits and losses, and submit audit reports within strict deadlines.
- Leadership Guidance: Provide direction and training to department heads regarding budgeting policies, financial resource utilization, and internal control expectations.
3. Stakeholder Communication & Analysis
- Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Partner with hotel operational leaders to solve compliance bottlenecks, resolve audit findings, and maintain positive working relationships.
- Reporting & Data Verification: Tabulate, compile, and analyze financial data using accounting computer systems and spreadsheets to generate accurate reporting for executive leaders.
Foundational Capabilities & Prerequisites
Required Track Record & Professional Qualifications
- Academic Background: 4-year Bachelor's degree in Finance and Accounting or a directly related field.
- Workplace Experience: Minimum 1 year of professional experience in accounting, auditing, financial controls, or tax compliance (hospitality experience preferred).
- Marriott Systems Knowledge: Deep understanding of (or ability to rapidly master) Marriott SOPs, SRA audit standards, and risk assessment toolkits.
- Technical Competency: Proficiency in financial spreadsheets, hotel management systems, data calculations, and computerized accounting platforms.
- Personal Integrity & Leadership: Strong organizational and time-management skills, self-confidence, effective conflict management, and high personal integrity.
