Job Summary
The CCTV Surveillance Operator monitors live security footage across multi-screen setups, identifies suspicious activity or safety hazards, and maintains structured data archives. This professional verifies surveillance equipment uptime, communicates field hazards to on-site security personnel, and delivers quick, logical support during emergency responses.
Key Roles & Operational Responsibilities
1. Live Surveillance Monitoring & Threat Detection
- Conduct vigilant, real-time monitoring of live CCTV feeds across multiple display matrices, tracking activities across corporate offices, production hubs, and retail outlets.
- Scan operational areas systematically to identify unauthorized access, suspicious behavior, safety non-compliance, or potential inventory shrinkages.
- Maintain sharp visual focus and high-level attention during extended monitoring shifts to protect company personnel and physical assets.
2. Digital Footage Management & System Integrity
- Oversee the continuous, reliable operation of all local and remote security cameras, evaluating live signal strength and camera angles.
- Coordinate the secure recording, data formatting, systematic labeling, and physical storage of video footage according to company archiving protocols.
- Conduct routine performance checks on surveillance recording servers and monitoring software, flagging equipment faults or blind spots immediately to technical maintenance teams.
3. Emergency Coordination & Incident Reporting
- React swiftly, logically, and calmly during high-pressure security threats, facility emergencies, or active breaches.
- Coordinate directly with active ground guard units and facility managers to relay real-time visual details during live field incidents.
- Draft accurate, detailed security observation logs and incident summary reports to assist corporate risk investigations.
Foundational Capabilities & Prerequisites
Required Technical Profile & Experience
- Educational Foundation: High school diploma, secondary school certificate, or an equivalent educational credential.
- Experience Baseline: Prior professional experience working within a dedicated CCTV monitoring environment, asset protection role, or security control room is strongly preferred.
- Software & Equipment: Demonstrated technical proficiency handling modern CCTV hardware architectures, PTZ (Pan-Tilt-Zoom) controls, and network-based video management software (VMS).
- Core Skills: Sharp observation skills, strong spatial attention to detail, and quick, logical problem-solving capabilities under sudden stress.
- Communication Toolkit: Effective verbal and written communication abilities to deliver clear, precise instructions during tactical security situations.
- Legal Awareness: Basic operational knowledge of privacy regulations, evidence handling protocols, and local security laws in Rwanda.
