Job Summary
The Business Development Officer drives the firm’s B2B revenue targets, local lead generation networks, and contract conversion workflows. Core responsibilities include identifying new business opportunities, visiting client sites, securing Requests for Quotation (RFQs), tracking market pricing trends, and maintaining clear pipeline records to ensure long-term business growth.
Qualification
Educational Level & Target Domains
- Minimum Requirement: Formal Advanced Diploma or a full Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in Business Administration, Marketing, Procurement and Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Logistics, or a closely matching professional discipline.
Experience
Candidates must demonstrate balanced expertise across active client relationship building, technical proposal follow-ups, and commercial sales execution:
B2B Sales Footprint & Sector Familiarity
- Commercial Track Record: Prior professional experience in B2B sales, corporate account management, business development, or corporate procurement is highly valued.
- Industrial Sector Insight: Strong familiarity with the construction, infrastructure development, civil engineering, or heavy industrial sectors in Rwanda is preferred.
- Network Navigation: Proven ability to connect, communicate, and build trust with procurement officers, senior engineers, project contractors, and enterprise decision-makers.
Technical Skills & Productivity Tools
- Office Software Fluency: High proficiency using Microsoft Office productivity applications (specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) for pricing assessments and proposal generation.
- Modern Sales Stack Assets: Hands-on experience with LinkedIn networking strategies and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software platforms is an advantage.
- AI Tool Adaptability: Practical experience utilizing artificial intelligence and modern automation tools to accelerate client research or proposal writing is an added advantage (though not explicitly required).
Key Responsibilities
1. Market Penetration & Systematic Lead Generation (30%)
- Identify Growth Opportunities: Research and map out new business opportunities across key target markets, identifying upcoming infrastructure and commercial building projects.
- Generate Qualified Leads: Build a reliable pipeline of qualified commercial leads, setting up initial discovery meetings with target corporate clients.
- Secure RFQ Opportunities: Connect with site managers and procurement teams to systematically uncover new Requests for Quotation (RFQs).
2. Client Relationship Management & Field Representation (25%)
- Conduct Client Visits: Travel to meet with prospects and current clients across Kigali, acting as a professional brand ambassador for FYIRWA.
- Build Long-Term Trust: Cultivate strong, trust-based relationships with engineers, contractors, and corporate decision-makers to support repeat business.
- Coordinate Internal Teams: Partner closely with internal customer service and operations teams to align delivery schedules with client expectations.
3. Pricing Assessments, Quotations & Sales Conversion (25%)
- Analyze Market Trends: Track local market pricing, competitor strategies, and supply chain updates to keep quotes competitive.
- Prepare Sales Proposals: Draft clear business proposals and financial estimates, aligning FYIRWA's engineering materials and services with client budgets.
- Follow Up on Quotes: Manage the post-quotation follow-up process, addressing client questions or objections to successfully close the sale.
4. Data Documentation & Performance Reporting (20%)
- Maintain Interaction Logs: Keep detailed, organized records of all client interactions, follow-up timelines, and pipeline updates.
- Compile Performance Reports: Write and present regular updates on sales pipeline growth, conversion metrics, and overall revenue contributions.
- Contribute to Growth Strategy: Share field insights during team strategy sessions to help refine pricing models and improve service delivery.
Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Total volume of qualified B2B leads generated per quarter.
- Number of commercial client face-to-face meetings successfully conducted.
- Volume and valuation of incoming Requests for Quotation (RFQs) created.
- Conversion percentage rate of open quotations into closed, signed sales.
- Growth and accuracy of the active sales pipeline dashboard.
- Direct gross revenue contributions hitting target business goals.
