Required Professional Experience & Core Competencies
- Domain Tenure: Minimum of 3 years of direct experience operating within formal external audit, statutory assurance, or public accounting firm environments.
- Ownership Blueprint: A proven, reference-backed ability to manage assigned audit sections (such as cash, receivables, fixed assets, and revenue cycles) completely independently from initiation to final sign-off.
- Documentation Excellence: Comprehensive knowledge of strict audit documentation standards, with a track record of preparing clean, structured, cross-referenced, and review-ready working paper files that require minimal senior revision.
- Substantive Testing Mastery: Practical, hands-on competence executing standard substantive audit procedures, including statistical sampling methods, transactional vouching, process walkthroughs, and complex analytical reviews.
Required Analytical & System Skill Stack
- Reconciliation Logic: Exceptional skill in constructing and maintaining detailed ledger reconciliations (including bank accounts, AR/AP ledgers, fixed asset registers, and VAT accounts) utilizing rock-solid roll-forward and roll-back mathematical logic.
- Financial Cycle Diagnostic: Ability to trace corporate cash flows, evaluate internal controls, map data trails, and document comprehensive narrative process notes for core operational financial cycles (revenue, procurement, payroll).
- Structured Reporting Communication: Advanced written and verbal English communication skills, specifically tuned for professional corporate reporting and explaining technical accounting issues.
Preferred Technical Qualifications
- Specialized Audit Software: Practical familiarity or direct working knowledge of CaseWare audit software platforms (highly desirable and carries immediate weight during applicant scoring).
- International Framework Exposure: Foundational exposure to International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) or US GAAP, along with an understanding of foreign-currency remeasurement adjustments.
Key Responsibilities
1. Comprehensive Audit File Construction & Verification (35%)
- Organize Working Papers: Prepare, index, and manage complete audit working paper files, including permanent history files, current year engagement folders, trial balance imports, and extensive lead schedule cross-referencing.
- Execute Balance Tie-Outs: Verify that client opening balances match prior-period audited statements perfectly, documenting and tying out discrepancies before building active schedules.
- Manage External Confirmations: Draft, transmit, and meticulously track standard external verification requests, including third-party bank confirmations, legal representations, and loan schedules.
- Clear Review Exceptions: Track, address, and clear review notes issued by Senior Auditors promptly, updating supporting documentation to maintain file integrity.
2. Substantive Assurance Procedures & Financial Modeling (30%)
- Perform Transactional Vouching: Execute rigorous substantive workflows, selecting data samples from general ledgers and vouching them against primary source documents (invoices, shipping bills, bank records).
- Conduct Analytical Reviews: Perform dynamic trend analysis, period-over-period variance tracking, and ratio assessments to pinpoint unusual fluctuations or high-risk ledger balances.
- Model Roll-Forward Schedules: Build and maintain complex asset and liability roll-forward models, ensuring multi-currency remeasurements and valuation logic align with statutory regulations.
- Trace Sample Variances: Isolate, evaluate, and quantify errors found during sampling cycles, expanding testing parameters when variance thresholds are breached.
3. Internal Control Walkthroughs & Issue Drafting (20%)
- Map Financial Cycles: Execute comprehensive operational walkthroughs across core corporate financial streams—specifically revenue creation, purchasing pipelines, and payroll distribution.
- Draft Process Narratives: Create highly detailed process notes, flowcharts, and internal control narratives to isolate system friction points or tracking weaknesses.
- Formulate Framework Findings: Draft clear, professional audit findings using the strict Issue–Cause–Impact–Recommendation framework.
- Propose Adjusting Journal Entries: Identify accounting errors or cut-off discrepancies, drafting accurate proposed adjusting journal entries (AJEs) to bring client ledgers into compliance.
4. Reporting Architecture & Firm Compliance (15%)
- Draft Financial Statements: Assist in drafting client financial statement packages, complete with secondary note disclosures and firm compliance checklists.
- Enforce Version Controls: Strictly follow the firm’s audit methodology, applying clean file-naming rules, file locking steps, and digital version control procedures.
- Manage Delivery Deadlines: Track outstanding client documents proactively, follow up on pending items, and manage time entries to hit target milestones under tight close windows.
- Provide Risk Updates: Proactively communicate emerging audit risks, transaction bottlenecks, and open ledger items to Senior Auditors and engagement partners via clear digital status updates.
Core Competencies & Skills
- Elite Meticulousness: A sharp eye for numerical matching, formatting consistency, and cross-reference validation across complex documentation sets.
- Autonomous Technical Focus: The mental discipline to dig into complex ledger details, solve reconciliation breaks, and advance audit sections with minimal supervisor guidance.
- Systemized Problem Solving: The analytical skill to look past raw rows of numbers, isolate operational root causes behind accounting errors, and build practical solutions.
- High-Context Communication: The ability to communicate complex accounting and compliance issues clearly and concisely to internal teams and clients alike.
