Associate Software Engineer

Job Summary

The Associate Software Engineer works under the guidance of senior team members to support the design, development, testing, and maintenance of digital products used by SLR Better Mining. Joining the technical team and reporting directly to the Technical Adviser, the successful candidate will contribute to both frontend and backend development, support system integrations, assist with user support, and help with data cleaning and validation. This role focuses on delivering reliable, well-tested code while continuously learning software engineering best practices alongside technical leadership.

Qualification

• Degree or equivalent training in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.

Experience

• Strong baseline familiarity or exposure to technical environments, including comfort working in Linux/Bash environments.
• Practical exposure to Git/GitHub for version control.
• Educational or professional exposure to DevOps and deployment tools like Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud platforms such as Heroku and Azure.
• Exposure to Elixir/Phoenix is highly advantageous.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

Software Development & Delivery:

• Support the development, testing, and maintenance of software applications using Elixir, Phoenix, Python, and JavaScript frameworks (NestJS, ReactJS, NextJS).
• Implement features and resolve bug fixes based on clearly defined requirements and technical designs.
• Write clean, readable, and testable code following established coding standards.
• Assist in translating user and business requirements into viable technical solutions.
• Participate actively in software testing, debugging, and quality assurance activities.
• Develop basic technical documentation, including code comments and implementation notes.
• Support application deployment activities under guidance from senior engineers.

System Support & Maintenance:

• Assist in troubleshooting, debugging, and resolving software defects.
• Support the maintenance of existing applications to improve overall stability and performance.
• Help ensure systems remain up to date with required enhancements and fixes.
• Escalate complex technical issues appropriately and document their resolutions.

Team Collaboration & Learning:

• Collaborate closely with other engineers, Better Mining project staff, and broader SLR digital teams.
• Take part in code reviews as a contributor and incorporate constructive feedback.
• Demonstrate continuous learning and proactive skill development aligned with team needs.

Skills & Competencies

Technical:

• Basic understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC)
• Knowledge of JavaScript and TypeScript
• Familiarity with React.js, Next.js, and NestJS
• Basic understanding of REST APIs
• Basic knowledge of databases (PostgreSQL and MongoDB)
• Basic understanding of software testing and debugging principles
