About the Project:
The project aims to reduce food insecurity by leveraging digital technologies to accelerate the production and flow of food from regions with limited agricultural potential or high population pressures to areas with surplus production. The consultancy will strengthen the capacity of selected African countries to leverage innovative digital solutions for agricultural production, processing, and trade. The project also evaluates the impact of digital innovations on production, manufacturing, and food access, reduces information asymmetries, improves price transparency, and enhances the efficiency and integration of agricultural food markets.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead the implementation of the project under the guidance of the ECA project manager and coordinate the work of national consultants in both francophone and anglophone countries.
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of digital trade and agricultural value chains, identifying gaps, needs, and opportunities for digital technology and AI integration.
- Production of Scientific Documents: Review existing documents on digital tools and AI for food production and trade; produce national background studies; develop policy briefs for policymakers.
- Capacity Building: Review and strengthen training materials to build stakeholders’ technical capacities in digital production systems, value chains, market access, and food security.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Engage government agencies, private sector entities, and international organizations; assist in organizing workshops to share best practices in digital supply chain management.
- Monitor project progress, evaluate impact, and provide recommendations for improving agricultural production, trade efficiency, and market access.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Education: Master’s degree in agro-economics, agronomy, sustainable development, statistics, or related field; PhD preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 7 years in digital economy, digitization of agricultural value chains, food security analysis, or related areas, with a proven track record in agri-tech and food security projects in developing countries (preferably in Africa).
- Experience in statistical and econometric analysis, agricultural value chains, digital trade, and collaboration with national institutions (e.g., Ministries of Agriculture).
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, meet tight deadlines, and deliver high-quality outputs.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
Languages: Fluency in English and French (oral and written) is required.
